May '98 A 5-day workshop on children's rights and their problems
by Bal Panchayat.
July '98 1st issue of Bal Darpan - Bal Panchayat's voice was published and
circulated. Since then 9 issues of Bal Darpan have been taken out.
Oct. '98 International theater personality Anna Scher conducted a
theatre workshop with 50 children from Bal Panchayat. They were taught how
to perform street plays. This workshop promoted confidence in children and
they are now raising their voice through theater to reach out to masses
and advocate child rights.
May '98 Parents workshop was organized by CASP PLAN to highlight
the problems faced by children and help parents understand their child better.
March '99 Puppet training workshop at Dehradun was attended by 30
children of Bal Panchayat. They learnt how to use puppets as a medium to
communicate their views. At the end of the workshop, the children gave a
performance at the Gandhi Park, Dehradun.
April '99 Film making training was given by Shonu Chandra to 15 Bal
Panchayat Children. Since then, children have made two short documentaries
on related to effect of TV on children. and problem of drug addiction in
children. They also covered numerous workshops & seminars on children's
rights.
July '99 Marches were organized to help raise funds for the Indian
army fighting for our country in Kargil. This was first such experience
for the children & they collected RS. 1940/- which was sent to the Army
Welfare Fund.
Dec. '99 First Global conference on children's rights in Calcutta
was covered by the Video Crew.
Mar'2000 Visit by U.S. Senators & USAID members to meet Bal Panchayat
children.
July'2000 A USAID member Linda Morse showed interest in supporting Bal Panchayat.
For this purpose USAID members collected funds (Rs. 35000/-) and proposed
to open a trust for Bal Panchayat with this money.
Oct.'2000 Started newspaper at each unit level. Children pooled in
their own money for this effort.
Nov. '2000 Program on child rights advocacy by Bal Panchayat &
CASP PLAN. Children invited Justice J.S. Verma to participate and forwarded
few recommendation to improve the child status in our country.
Feb. '2001 2 silent March organized by Bal Panchayat to raise funds
for Gujarat earthquake victims. Funds collected RS. 5870/-.
May'2001 National Meet on Children's Rights and participation organised
by Bal Panchayat in Delhi.
June'2001 Environment week celebrated by Bal Panchayat to commemorate
World Environment Day. Organised street plays, poster competition, debate
and took out a rally on environment issue.
July'2001 First Annual issue of English "Bal Darpan" released.
Aug'2001 Tree Plantation organised. All the arrangements of getting
the saplings for plantation done on the initiative take by Bal Panchayat
members.
Oct'2001 Low cost material training given by Bal Panchayat members
to their peer groups.
Jan'2002 National level 2nd workshop on Children's Rights attended
by 16 NGOs from all over the country
Feb'2002 UK Channel IV Journalist visit to Bal Panchayat. Reconstructed
documentary film made on Tobacco addiction among children by Bal Panchayat
members.
May'2002 Bal Panchayat members identified and provided Education
Scholarship support to needy children from the community through LMBPT. |
